Planting Seeds of Success with Nicole Saunders

You guys. There are multiple reasons I love today’s episode.

One: because Nicole brings such a light and energy to the interview.

Two: because I could listen to her Carolinian accent all day long.

Three: because today we go deep, my friend.

In most of our guest interviews, we keep things pretty light. I like to talk about the lighthearted, fun sides of making small towns great and growing visions.

But today we go all-in with Nicole Saunders. We talk about human psychology, why people do the things they do, hard times in life, growing through grief, and social justice issues of our time. In her own words, she “likes to make a splish-splash” and rock the boat a little.

My friend Nicole Saunders is a business coach for female-identifying entrepreneurs. She empowers womxn to grow their businesses by tapping into their personalities and strengths. When not working with clients, Nicole can be found hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina with her husband and their three dogs while jamming out to Mumford & Sons. She loves making pottery and is obsessed with personality tests.

You’ll get a listen into Nicole’s personality in today’s episode, and I know her story and perspectives on life are going to leave you with lots of great takeaways!

Key Takeaways

  • Introverted business owners are going to run things differently than extroverted business owners
  • Meyers-Briggs is one way to analyze your personality type, and the Enneagram is another.
  • “We have to work in what works best for us.” Industry leaders are successful not because they copy what others have done before them, but because they lean into their own strengths and gifts.
  • Knowing yourself and knowing who you help are two tennants of your business in order to make your marketing work.
  • “The people that need me are gonna find me, and I have to be confident in that.” Don’t water down your messaging to try to bend to everyone’s needs. Your people will find you.
  • Knowing how people behave and how social media affects behavior is rooted in the nature of human psychology.
  • In today’s age we want immediate results and instant gratification as we pursue business growth or advancing our causes, but that’s not always possible. The easy way isn’t always the best way, and the good things take time.
  • We take a detour and make metaphors of business growth and raspberries.
  • When we can empathize and recognize the humanity of the people around us in our towns and make a point to understand them even if, and especially if, they’re different from your own.
  • You are allowed to change your mind and learn or relearn new things as you experience the world around you.
  • Big life changes, including Nicole’s loss of her dear father in 2020, can derail you. Sometimes you have to sit in the ugly grief and feel the sadness and grief, but emerging from these seasons can prompt some major shifts and transformation.
  • “There’s a fine line between being vulnerable and being negative.”
