What makes a space more than just four walls and a desk? For Julie Burton, the answer is community, connection, and a little bit of what she calls ModernWell Magic.

Julie is the founder of ModernWell, a coworking and wellness space in Minneapolis (with a second location now in Wayzata, Minnesota). But ModernWell isn’t your average shared office space. It’s a place where women can work, create, and connect while feeling truly supported and inspired.
In episode 217 of The Found Podcast, Julie shared her journey of creating ModernWell and why she believes women thrive when they come together in spaces designed with their needs in mind.

Why Women Need Connection
“We are wired for connection,” Julie says. “Women, especially, have a higher need for nurturing—both giving and receiving. We’re not supposed to operate in isolation.”
That insight became the foundation for ModernWell. Julie envisioned a place where women could walk in, feel instantly welcomed, and know they had the support and resources to thrive.

An Incubator for Ideas
ModernWell quickly became more than a coworking space—it became an incubator for creativity. Members have launched businesses, written books, started podcasts, and pursued passion projects, fueled by the energy of being surrounded by “really cool people doing really cool things.”
As Julie puts it: “I wanted to create a space I myself would want to hang out in—a place where women could feel celebrated, inspired, and empowered to succeed in whatever endeavor they’re embarking on.”

Community in Action
The importance of connection became even more evident during the pandemic. When the space reopened, a core group of members returned—masked and distanced, but eager to be together. That sense of belonging helped many push through one of the most isolating times in recent history.

The Bigger Picture
Julie believes spaces like ModernWell aren’t just nice-to-haves—they’re vital. In a world where loneliness and burnout are rising, women need places where they can recharge, share ideas, and simply not feel alone.
”People need a space to call their own and be able to create and focus and daydream. And then also sometimes to get away from the, call it what you want, but “chaos” of life at home and the ongoing kids’ needs and laundry and dishes and just bills and all the things. I always say our biggest competitor is your kitchen table.”

Experience the Magic
Julie’s story is a reminder that success isn’t built in isolation. Whether you’re dreaming up your next project or simply craving connection, there’s power in finding your people and your place.
