The 7 Deadly Sins of Social Media Marketing

We’ve all heard the objections:

“I accidentally posted to my business page instead of my personal account. Online marketing is too complicated.”

“My former employee left a scathing review on Yelp and now I’ll never have another social media account for my business.”

“I’m not techy, therefore I just shouldn’t have a business social media presence.”

Newsflash: these statements, while true to an extent, are all excuses holding you back from achieving social media marketing success.

Social media marketing can be scary, mostly because many entrepreneurs are most comfortable working in their niche, and don’t have enough time or maybe enough knowledge to navigate digital effectively. And I get it. You have to be your business’ accountant, marketer, HR representative, and production specialist, and adding another responsibility to your plate seems insurmountable. You’ve also heard from friends and family some horror stories that you want to avoid, so therefore you don’t have an online presence at all for your business.

I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be this way. If you show up consistently, authentically, and without reservation, you will build a tribe that responds to your business and your mission.

You do not need a degree in programming to build an online tribe, you just need to be willing to put yourself out there. You do not need to have an active online presence for people to leave you a review (or even create a temporary Facebook Page). You do not need to know coding to understand that connecting and communicating is the real secret sauce to social media.

In today’s Facebook LIVE at www.facebook.com/mollyknuthmedia we’re discussing all scary things, the mistakes people (including me) have made, and the things holding you back from digital marketing success.

We’re discussing:

  1. What to do when you get a negative review. It will happen, and it isn’t the end of the world.
  2. How to interpret your data for real meaning. Ignoring your numbers is the best way to get frustrated.
  3. Why you shouldn’t be on Twitter AND Instagram AND Facebook AND YouTube AND Pinterest…in the beginning. Being everywhere at once is the best way to get overwhelmed.

If you want to know a little more of what NOT to do on your business’ social media feeds, go to the MKM video library on Facebook and download the show notes below:
